Trieste Priest Father Marco Eugenio Brusutti Receives the Prestigious “Seal of the City of Padua”

Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 5:00 PM at the Auditorium Hall of the San Gaetano Center

The prestigious “Seal of the City of Padua” is awarded by the Mayor of Padua and President of the Province of Padua, Sergio Giordani, to Father Marco Eugenio Brusutti for his humanitarian merits.

For 30 years, Father Brusutti has volunteered with AIL Padova ODV as a compassionate counselor in the Pediatric Oncohematology Department of the Padua University Hospital, initially under Professor Luigi Zanesco and later under Professor Modesto Carli.

He has been tireless in fundraising for research, working at the AIL national awareness campaign booths, and serving for more than 18 years as a member of the organization’s Board of Directors. Since October 2020, he has been the president of AIL Padova, leading the generational transition and fighting on the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in providing home assistance to patients.

He has reopened nine housing units used to accommodate sick children and their families, and under his leadership an international humanitarian project in support of children with leukemia has taken shape.

Recently, AIL Padova ODV acquired and began managing a new hospitality home in Monselice for children undergoing radiotherapy treatments in Schiavonia. Father Brusutti has always supported the invaluable volunteer groups in the Oncohematology Department in Padua and the Hematology Department in Camposampiero, who accompany children and adults, along with their families, throughout their long and difficult treatment journeys.

His participation in seminars on patients’ rights and medical ethics is countless.

Father Marco Eugenio Brusutti is parochial vicar at the Church of Saint Catherine of Siena in Trieste and a bioethicist at the IRCCS Burlo Garofolo Pediatric Hospital in Trieste, the regional center for pediatric palliative care—making him a reference point for all of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

This award adds to the various international recognitions he has already received.

Father Brusutti has chosen to dedicate the Seal of the City of Padua to all AIL volunteers who, in anonymity, offer their precious service to those in need.

Bruno Brusutti, president of the Brusutti company, the oldest passenger transport firm in the Venetian area, died today at 12 p.m. at the hospital in Padua.

Born in Venice, he was 80 years old, having celebrated his birthday on November 9th. He had been hospitalized for a number of days in the Hematology Department headed by Professor Livio Trentin He passed away lovingly comforted by his wife, Marisa, and his son, Marco Eugenio.

Bruno was the second-born son—after his brother Giancarlo—of Gino and Giulia Brusutti, noble industrialists of the Venetian area who had founded the company in 1945. Bruno then personally devoted himself to it for exactly fifty years as president—this year marks the anniversary—taking over from his father.

A brilliant and versatile industrialist, Brusutti devoted his entire life to the world of transport and personal services, guiding the company along a path of growth and consolidation that led it to distinguish itself on both the Italian and international stage, earning the esteem of industry professionals as well as various prestigious honors.

He had received an honorary degree in Transport Science in the USA.

Bruno Brusutti was the Venetian president of ANAV, the Italian National Association of Passenger Transport A long-standing member of Confindustria Venezia—where he served as section president and held other positions even at the national level—he had been decorated with the title of Commander of the Republic by the Head of State, Giorgio Napolitano. Last year he had been appointed Knight Grand Cross—the highest honor—by Cardinal Jorge Arturo Medina Estévez, who recently passed away.

“My father,” says Marco Eugenio Brusutti, “was passionate about life. A man of deep faith, he led an exemplary life, dedicated to work and family, embodying the Christian sense of love. He was always there: our employees and collaborators found in him an unfailing point of reference. Even at an advanced age, on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, he could be found in his place, in the president’s office. He had a piece of advice, a suggestion for everyone. An honest, upstanding man, he was far-sighted in strategic decisions such as, for example, the creation of the first private parking facility serving the airport. In recent years, my father faced his health problems by entrusting himself to God and never neglecting the company, which moreover was engaged in crucial challenges for its operations.”

“Bruno,” his wife Marisa emphasizes, “always kept a deep passion for the Air Force; he was an officer with the dignity and values that distinguish those who serve the State. He never failed to help countless people in need, to whom he quietly sent support, as well as numerous associations such as AIL (the Italian association against leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma). Even in recent times, he offered his help to Ukrainian migrants fleeing the war.”

“We praise the Lord,” concludes the Brusutti family, “for this gift of such a special husband and father. And our gratitude goes to all the healthcare staff of the Hematology Department in Padua, who cared for him with dedication and rare professionalism.”

Mogliano Veneto (TV), May 19, 2022

The arrangements for the farewell to Bruno Brusutti are being finalized at this time. The historic entrepreneur, who for 50 years served as president of the passenger transport company that bears his name, headquartered in Tessera, passed away yesterday in Padua at the age of 80.

The family is receiving hundreds of messages of condolence from Italy and abroad, and wishes to thank all those who are expressing their closeness and affection in this sad moment.

Given the very large outpouring of sympathy for their loss, the Brusutti family has arranged a series of subsequent moments of farewell to allow the many who have asked to pay their respects and say their final goodbyes to Bruno Brusutti.

It is confirmed that the funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 24, at 11 a.m., in the cathedral of San Lorenzo Martire, in Piazza Ferretto, in Mestre The service will be presided over by Monsignor Roberto Rosa, episcopal vicar of the Diocese of Trieste, where Marco Eugenio Brusutti, Bruno’s son, is incardinated as a deacon at the parish of Santa Caterina.

The funeral will be preceded by two private moments.

The first will take place at the company headquarters in Tessera: here, at 9 a.m., the casket will arrive from the morgue of the Padua hospital. It will follow the usual route that Bruno traveled every morning and evening to inspect the depots and garages and greet the workers, stopping briefly.

The second will be held, again in Tessera, in the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta: here, at 9:30 a.m., the pastor, Father Lionello Dal Molin, will receive the casket, which will be placed near the altar to allow a moment of gathering and farewell for the many employees and collaborators of the company, including retirees, who in these hours have been asking the family for a moment of their own for reflection beside their president. Joining this moment in spirit, from their respective locations, will be the drivers and staff on duty along the various transport routes Afterward, escorted by a bus—which carries symbolic weight given his life’s work—the casket will be taken to the cathedral in Mestre for the funeral Mass.

Waiting to receive him at the church entrance will be the archpriest, Monsignor Gianni Bernardi, a family friend. Afterward, escorted by a bus—which carries symbolic weight given his life’s work—the casket will be taken to the cathedral in Mestre for the funeral Mass Among the concelebrants will be the pastor of Mogliano Veneto, the municipality where the Brusutti family resides, Father Samuele Facci, and the pastor of Santa Caterina in Trieste, Monsignor Giorgio Petrarcheni.

At the end of the mass, the employees will carry the coffin to the hearse that will take the road to the cemetery. The burial will take place in a strictly private manner.

All proceeds from the offerings collected for the occasion will be donated to AIL, the Italian association for the fight against leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma, specifically to support the care and assistance of patients in the Hematology Department of the Padua Hospital, headed by Professor Livio Trentin.
